Facets of Work Expanded

I’m an Imagination Doula

My journey to being an Imagination Doula began as a birth doula where I supported 30 pregnant and birthing mothers and their families as they prepared and brought new life into the world. At the bedside of friends and loved ones, I also bore witness to the end of life process as a death doula. Both experiences heightened my reverence for the cycle of life, and reinforced the notion that life begets death begets regeneration or transformation, in all aspects of our lived experience. As an imagination doula, I facilitate and support process-based work, just as I did with the birthing and dying. I apply what I know about the process being individual, non-linear, where imagination is a powerful tool, and creativity is an innate and boundless part of the human experience. My toolkit consists of arts-based activities to support participant’s creativity so they can connect more deeply to their current life circumstances and express themselves more authenticity, from the heart and with flexibility to navigate their changing personal landscape.

I’m a Ritual Artist

Ritual is an "architected human experience that carries meaning and value. ~ Stanford Ritual Lab

I have always relished opportunities to participate in rituals. Whether conceived by others or designed by me, ritual has offered me connection to what is sacred, grounding and reassurance. Simply put, ritual is an activity where intentional action guides the work being done and by engaging in ritual we can illuminate what we value and create a sense of meaning and purpose. Ritual reinforces that which shapes and is shaped by the rhythm of our lives, and it is individual, creative and transformative. My journey to becoming a ritual artist includes undergoing an 18-day women’s shamanic initiation cycle where over a 9-month gestation period we met one weekend a month. At the end of this process, I emerged deeply connected to my inner priestess and with knowledge to officiate ritual practice. Completing the Foundations of Ritual course expanded and refined my literacy so that as a ritual artist I skillfully make and hold space for the meaning-making that results from exploring our individual and shared human experience.

I’m a Clown

I was introduced to clowning in 2017, and have been uncovering my inner clown ever since through classes and involvement with an online clown community. I relish the opportunity to embrace the multiplicities of myself, confront discomfort, learn to live in partnership with myself rather than at odds, and practice spontaneity, creativity, and playfulness. My penchant for process and experimentation, which inevitably lend themselves to failure and the freedom to express what arises in the moment are thanks to clown energy.

I’m a Radio Producer, Host and Trainer

Up until recently and for the past 21 years, my day job was at a community radio station as Program Director. Part and parcel of being responsible for everything we broadcast, it was my job to ensure that all volunteer programmers were trained and mentored in the ways of radio-making - from technical skills to rules and regulations to on-air technique. By bringing underrepresented stories and music to the airwaves, I literally found my voice, learned about curation, built relationships that stretched my social understanding and inspired community connection through listener engagement.

I’m an Astrology Enthusiast

My foray into astrology began as a teenager reading and sharing the horoscopes by Georgia Nicols in the daily newspaper with friends and family. I wanted to know everyone’s sign, and could give a fairly accurate assessment of personality based on reading Linda Goodman’s book, Sun Signs. In my mid-20s, when I had my first natal chart reading, it was revelatory in that so much rang true but that reading also introduced the idea that the sun was only one of 12 planetary bodies influencing the blueprint of my life. Since then I have dabbled with self-study to learn more and more in the tradition of western astrology, and more recently taking classes with DSA and The Chironium & The School Of Living Astrology. I say I’m an astrology enthusiast because I enjoy learning about the signs, planets, and their symbolic meanings without engaging in professional astrological practice. Although I have done friend’s charts, and read Astro-Dice, my interest in astrology lies in how the archetypes of the zodiac show up quite uniquely for us.
